Las Vegas · Nevada
Overview
The Flamingo opened its casino on 26 December 1946 and its hotel the following March, and it is the oldest resort still operating on the Las Vegas Strip — the property every later megaresort was built in answer to. What survives is not the original building but the position and the name: a 28-storey, 3,460-room resort under Caesars Entertainment, sitting at the centre of the Strip opposite Caesars Palace. Its most distinctive feature is the one that justifies the name — a four-acre wildlife habitat at the heart of the property, home to live flamingos alongside swans and pelicans, with the pool complex built around it. For travellers the appeal is position and continuity: central Strip footing, and the only address on it that can trace its line back to 1946.
Luxio Perspective
Choose this for its place in the Strip's history and for how central it sits, rather than for contemporary luxury. The wildlife habitat is the reason to walk the grounds even if you stay elsewhere.
