Zion

Utah · United States

A canyon experienced from the floor, with its walls rising around the road and river.

Zion Canyon brings together the Scenic Drive, Angels Landing and The Narrows, while Kolob Canyons reveals a separate northern section of the same park beyond the main canyon corridor.

DISCOVER ZION

A canyon whose scale is understood from inside it.

Zion's defining perspective is from below. The main canyon road follows the Virgin River between high sandstone walls, ending at Temple of Sinawava, where the paved river walk continues toward The Narrows. That route enters the canyon through the water itself, so river flow, weather and current access conditions are fundamental to planning. Above the valley, Angels Landing follows an exposed ridge to one of Zion's best-known views, but it is permit-controlled and should never be treated as guaranteed or unrestricted access. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is also managed seasonally, with shuttle operations replacing most private vehicle access during the operating period. These controls are part of how the canyon works, not minor logistical details. Away from the main corridor, Kolob Canyons has its own entrance and a sequence of red-rock finger canyons that broadens the destination beyond Springdale and the Scenic Drive. Keeping the two sections together preserves Zion's real geography while acknowledging that they are not a single continuous sightseeing loop. The destination rewards a plan built around access conditions, canyon weather and enough time to experience the scale from the floor upward.

From Canyon Floor To Canyon Rim

Scenic Drive · The Narrows · Angels Landing

The walls define the view, but access conditions define the day.

Zion Canyon Scenic Drive follows the Virgin River toward Temple of Sinawava and The Narrows, while the permit-controlled route to Angels Landing rises above it; Kolob Canyons adds a separate northern expression of the same park.

Journey Possibility

Plan the main canyon around current shuttle operations, permits, river flow and trail conditions, then give Kolob Canyons separate time rather than treating its northern entrance as part of the same loop.
